DSS street sweepers clear debris and leaves that have accumulated during winter months from residential and arterial streets across the City. The Clean and Green Day of Service, comes on the heels of the official start of the City’s annual street sweeping season, which began April 1 st. The period before the 1st Solar Term and the Lunar New Year is the best period for spring cleaning. National Spring Clean is Ireland’s largest and most popular anti-litter initiative. Residents and groups interested in volunteering for Clean and Green are asked to first identify a worksite, and then call their local aldermanic office or 3-1-1 to register their volunteer group by Monday, April 19, 2021. The City will provide the brooms, rakes, shovels and bags needed to complete each cleaning project. Volunteers will be asked to practice physical distancing and wear face coverings. “Clean and Green is an opportunity for us to show the very best of Chicago, both the beauty of our city and the pride our residents have in it.”ĭSS and residents are happy to continue this annual tradition, with new COVID-19 safety measures in place. “Every year we look forward to putting winter behind us and focusing on spring cleaning,” said DSS Commissioner John Tully.
